一項統計資料顯示：南韓國民每人平均國內生產總值（GDP），為兩萬三千一百一十三美元，而北韓為七百八十三美元，而按照此來推算，南韓國民每人平均GDP為北韓的二十九點五倍。

南韓聯合通訊社報導，據現代經濟研究院消息，北韓每人平均GDP較前年增加了六十三美元。這是因為去年天氣情況比較良好，糧食收成提高，同時建築領域的投資也有所擴大。此外，北韓和中國貿易與兩韓貿易額增加，國際社會對北韓援助的規模擴大，這些都對擴大GDP規模，起到了作用。
