Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, passed away at the age of 87 from a stroke on the morning of April 8, 2013. She had been the first and only female prime minister to date in Britain’s long history.
As the leader of Britain from 1979 to 1990, Thatcher transformed the country. She put an end to trade unions, sold off state-owned companies, and achieved victory in a war. She ruled with an iron will, which earned her the nickname of the Iron Lady. What’s more, the policies she put into place are now known as Thatcherism. Not bad for a grocer’s daughter from Grantham, England.
