美國空軍官校誓詞不強迫說「So help me God」

美國空軍官25日表示，未來空軍官校學生在宣讀榮譽誓詞(Honor Oath)時，結尾將不再強制說「so help me God」(我發誓；上帝助我)。

「軍中宗教自由基金會」(Military Religious Freedom Foundation)投訴，這項誓詞規定已經違反了美國憲法的宗教自由。

空軍官校的榮譽誓言內容包括：「我們不說謊，不偷盜，不欺騙，也絕不容忍同學中任何人有此種行為。而且，我決心忠於職責、正直為人，上帝保佑我。」(We will not lie, steal, or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does.Furthermore, I resolve to do my duty and to live honorably, so help me God.)而引起爭議的就是最後一句「so help me God」。

美國空軍官校表示，為尊重學生的宗教自由，決定改變做法，未來宣誓時不再強制說「so help me God」。

美國總統宣誓就職時，在誓詞最後都會加上「So help me God」，但這句原本並非憲法規定的誓詞。相傳這項傳統是由首任總統華盛頓開始，但專家指出，這句話其實是第20任總統阿瑟在1881年宣誓時首次使用，此後歷屆總統跟隨。曾有無神論者要求禁用，最終敗訴。
