香港大學西浦博(NISHIURA, Hiroshi)醫師領導的研究團隊，8日在國際醫學雜誌上發表，在中國接二連三發生感染者的H7N9型禽流感，根據與鳥類接觸的經歷等資訊，進行統計上的分析顯示，「立刻發生世界性大流行(pandemic)的可能性很低」。

根據日本通信社8日報導，判斷傳染病是否容易再傳染的感染力指標，是一名患者平均會再傳染給多少人，也就是所謂的「基礎再生數」(Basic Reproduction Numbers)。這個數值如果比1大，那麼將會有一定比例發生大規模流行，如果比1小，則不會發生流行。

研究團隊是根據5月1日為止確認感染H7N9型禽流感病毒的129名病例，病患與鳥類接觸史以及發病時期等資訊為基礎，進行數理模型分析。
