OH-58戰搜直升機最新系列－OH-58F已於日前試飛成功，可望讓OH-58系列在美軍行列中服役至2035年。
1960年代初期，美國陸軍提出了一項輕型偵察直升機需求。貝爾(Bell)直升機與其他12家廠商參與競標，最後由貝爾提出206改裝設計案得標，原型機為YHO-4。不過YHO-4因為性能不符美國陸軍要求，遭到拒絕驗收而重新招標。貝爾再度送出重新設計的Model 206A型，再度得標。
貝爾206A被美國陸軍命名為OH-58「奇歐瓦」(Kiowa)戰搜直升機，奇歐瓦為美國印第安一支族裔。
OH-58A是一種多功能的偵查直升機，駕駛艙可容納2名成員，包括1名駕駛員與1名觀測員。觀測員的任務是定位敵人目標並回報和引導砲兵攻擊。OH-58A在1970年投入越戰，不過在戰場上付出慘重損失，一共損失45架OH-58A直升機。
OH-58B為外銷澳大利亞機型。OH-58C改良了許多前款機型缺點，包括增加紅外線探照燈、N/APR-39雷達探測器，提醒駕駛員自己是否被防空雷達偵測、降低紅外線熱源的新型發動機。
