3D列印技術可以說是近來最熱的話題之一，從列印衣服到槍，幾乎無所不能。而美國太空總署（NASA）為了解決未來宇航員到火星時的糧食問題，斥資12.5萬美元(台幣375萬元)與一家3D印表機公司製作一款「食物列印機」，將美味餐點一一列印下來「吃下肚」。
據美國《華盛頓郵報》報導，而美國太空總署（NASA）為了解決宇航員的糧食問題，因此與一家3D印表機公司，在半年內開發太空食物合成機，以便於NASA將食物材料送至外太空給太空人實用。
據悉，這款3D食物列印機的墨水匣分別裝食材粉與油脂，再以「分層上料」的方式讓食物成型，在列印時食物也順便烤熟了，因此完成後就可立即食用。
此外，該公司宣稱，這項發明甚至可以讓太空人及時吃到媽媽做的佳餚，例如只要媽媽在電腦中設計一款甜餅，再將影像送至太空梭，新鮮的甜餅就出爐了。
該公司的創辦人Anjan Contractor表示，這款3D食物列印機，除了解決太空人在外太空的糧食外，更重要地是還可以解決未來全球人口超過120億的糧食危機。
