監察院調查發現，新式車牌上路後，出現車牌落漆、重號等問題，出包不斷，全國約有3.8萬輛車號重複，監察院11日通過糾正交通部。

監委程仁宏、監委楊美鈴提案指出，新式車牌在去年12月核發後，陸續有民眾反映號牌落漆、尺寸太大、編碼新舊重複、擋住機車排氣管、方向燈等民怨問題。

監察院蒐集到的民怨，如「…新式機車號牌長度太長，除了容易擋住機車方向燈、也容易卡住排氣管、容易傷人，…」，「新式號牌落漆」、新式號牌的字體感覺很怪異, 有字體不平衡的感覺，號牌長寬比例，將英文字母「I」列入新號牌裡」等等。
