法新社報導，紅十字會11日說，自二次大戰結束以來，紅會今年冬天將首度在英國發放糧食救助物資，因為金融危機及撙節政策已使貧民受害。英國獨立報報導，英國紅十字會義工已發起捐助活動，在超市勸購物者捐助乾糧罐頭麵條等，且交由慈善機構發放給貧民。
